What does “organic cannabis” mean?

When people talk about something being “organic” — whether that’s their food or their cannabis — they’re referring to the practices used during its growth, harvest and processing.

When tending your crop, bugs and mold are a constant threat. To prevent or control them, some growers use pesticides and sprays that contain synthetic chemicals to ensure the problem is eliminated instantly. Many of these products are harmful to humans and the environment, both in application and the finished product.

When we started Loud & Local, we made the unanimous decision to never use synthetic inputs of any kind: no nitrates, phosphates, chemical pesticides or fungicides.

We give our plants the tools they need to be healthy, because healthy plants can take care of themselves.

Integrated Pest Management practices

We practice IPM, which requires understanding the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment, avoiding an infestation with the least possible hazard to people, property, and nature.

We scout for pests early and often, opting for preventive action rather than curative. We rely on Beneficial Insectary for our first line of defense, and always keep our growing environment clean. We also appreciate our resident spiders, working hard to guard our building against pests!

Always natural inputs, NO chemical pesticides or pre-bottled synthetic nutrients

Rather than buying off-the-shelf synthetic nutrients, we use organic, naturally-occurring, and minimally processed ingredients like gypsum, alfalfa, and locally sourced kelp that help to balance our soil’s biodiversity and positively affect our plants’ flower growth and quality.

OMRI-approved and MOFGA-certified

We use products that have the seal of approval from OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) — a non-profit that provides an independent review of products used for certified organic farming — as well as MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) — a non-profit that educates and engages in legislation related to farmers, promotes the benefits of organic farming and sustainable land management, and advocates for safer alternatives to synthetic pesticides.

Controlled environment to ensure our product stays fresh, from clone to cure

We take great care of our ladies (as should you). Our harvest process includes a 20-30-day, “low and slow” cure, which ensures the flower has the proper moisture level. This delicate, controlled curing and storing process preserves flavor, effect, cannabinoids, and ultimately, freshness of the flower.
